Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine Therapy Subtitled in Spanish
Clip from the *Some Kind of Monster* documentary showing a therapy session between Dave Mustaine and Lars Ulrich. Mustaine expresses the pain of watching everyone say Kirk Hammett was a great guitarist and that he was a "loser" kicked out of Metallica, a feeling he has dealt with for almost 20 years [00:00:02]. He is frustrated because everything Metallica touches "turns to gold" while his projects "always backfire" [00:00:32]. Mustaine confronts Ulrich about the lack of warning or a "second chance" before being fired in 1983 [00:02:44], saying he sold everything to join that dream and then it ended [00:03:21]. He concedes that his firing was justifiable due to his "disease" (addiction) and for being "dangerous" [00:02:22]. Ulrich admits feeling "some guilt" [00:01:16] and describes an "overwhelming sadness and guilt" [00:05:45] about how Mustaine was let go, recalling that behind his tough exterior, Dave was a "really tender person" [00:05:57]. Mustaine says he would "give anything" for a chance to have been told in 1982: "Hey Dave, you need to go to AA" [00:07:55].
